The Genuine Truth

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man cometh unto The Father, but by me.

This is a very powerful scripture that holds keys to not only our very existence, but also eternal life to them that find it! I am sure that if I told you that Jesus is the one and only Genuine Truth, you are not likely to disagree if you are reading this. – Maybe so, but not likely.

Definition of the word “The”: —used as a function word to indicate that a following noun or noun equivalent is a unique or a particular member of its class, i.e., the President, the Lord

We see that this statement made by Jesus indicates that there is only one (the) way, one (the) truth, and one (the) life that He claims to be. This is very important to this discussion and the points being proved herein.

Here are other verses that agree with the first, Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and One Spirit, even as ye are called in One hope of your calling; One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Here are some more: Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

So it should be easy for anyone to understand through these scriptures that Jesus is the only way to heaven: the only truth in this world (but not of this world), and the only eternal life. Since we are talking about truth here, what is “The Truth” then, and what value does it hold specifically?

When Our Lord Jesus was in the judgement hall, He told Pilate, the Roman governor trying Him, John 18:37b Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto The Truth. Every one that is of The Truth heareth my voice.

Then Pilate asked Jesus this same question that we are talking over: John 18:38a Pilate saith unto Him, What is Truth? The Truth was starring Pilate straight in the eyes!

It just so happens that mankind is still asking this question daily because nearly every person that we come into contact with will have a different version of Truth or “their own” truth. Over time, to keep man’s version of peace, some people have “agreed to disagree”. However, to “agree” and say that both sides speak truth, who may be totally contrary to one-another, could not be further from reality.

Reality is Truth. The thing about reality is that there is definitely only one reality in any matter. Just because we may (or may not) be able to see it or accept it, does not change the fact that it is real or really there.

There is only one Jesus Christ, and there is therefore only one Truth. We find this in everything that we encounter. Of truths there is always one - of counterfeits, perhaps hundreds, thousands, or even hundreds of thousands! This, of course, depends on what we are speaking about.

Here’s an important part of The Truth – that Jesus is The Word of God, all things were created by Him, and that ‘in Him’ is NO darkness, sin, or any evil thing: John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

One of the most interesting parts of this text is John 1:10, He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. Now remember, Jesus said that He is The Truth! This scripture reveals that the world (in general) does not know The Truth. I will say it again… the world, in general, does not know The Truth. I will even go a step further to say that a majority of the world cannot know The Truth. Proof?

Matthew 13:10-13 And the disciples came, and said unto Him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

Just because they cannot see Truth, does that mean that it is not Truth, or that it is not reality – silly question? – The answer is no. Reality is reality, even if it is hidden from our eyes. Remember “doubting Thomas”? The earth is round, correct? Can we see this from our normal everyday vantage point? Most people will have to say “no”? Does that change the fact or reality of it?

The drawing below is something that I picked up on the internet. I have seen several different versions, and I am not sure of its origin, so I am unable to give them credit. I wanted to share though because this proves how crafty and deceptive Satan (our adversary) can be. On the surface, there is some truth to this, because the individuals depicted are likely seeing two different things because they are standing on different angle of the number and therefore perceive it differently. The fact of the matter is though, that it is either, in reality, a 6 or a 9 if it truly represents something or some things. And – if they are not prudent enough to research and walk around the number, ask questions, and prove reality, they just might be deceived!

Proverbs 14:15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

The number above represents how much change I placed in my pocket this morning. So, how much is there? Who can tell me? Is every answer Truth?

So why is “our truth” so important to us? Why do we feel the need to defend it (if we do)? It is because if “our truth” is not reality, then we are wrong and have therefore been deceived, or we are otherwiwse “ignorant” of The Truth. Reality is that no one likes to be deceived, and especially not ignorant? The real danger in this is, of course, that because of pride, fear, etc., the only way that we can change and be saved by The Truth is to acknowledge Him and His Way that He shed His blood for.

Let me clarify one thing here and now though – The Truth does not need to be defended. Why? Because it is backed up by reality, for God’s Glory and not our own. Again, we may or may not be able to see the reality today, but by God’s Grace and Mercy, He will show it to us if we earnestly seek Him, to His Glory.

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

There are many people in this world today that do not believe in God simply because they cannot see Him. This does not mean that He is not there. They just simply do not see Him. Remember that we said earlier that Truth is reality? With reality there is always evidence. If it is not in plain sight, it may be hidden from us, but I can assure you that He is there!

When the 12 disciples told ‘Doubting Thomas’ that The Lord has risen, and that they had seen Him, Thomas said, “Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25) But Jesus said to Thomas, “Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

Even so, God has not left us clueless as to His existence. Jesus told His disciples in John 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Remember how many times in Genesis God said “Let there be…”?

John 8:32 And ye shall know The Truth, and The Truth shall make you free. Free from what you ask? Let’s read some more verses here in John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

What about John 8:43? Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear My word.

John 8:45? And because I tell you The Truth, ye believe Me not.

Have they not heard?

Psalms 19:1-7 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

BONUS QUESTION: Are all slaves servants? Are all servants slaves?

: one that performs duties about the person or home of a master or personal employer

: one that is completely subservient to a dominating influence

By this, we can conclude that all slaves are servants, but not all servants are slaves! So, if you are a servant of sin, is it because you are a slave, or because you want to serve sin (self), rather than God?

If you find that you are a “slave”, then you should definitely study the book of Romans, asking God for understanding… but THAT it another lesson.

So, what about lies? It’s really this simple Folks: the spirit of error will tell you in an abundant amount of ways that mankind cannot be completely free from sin in this lifetime. Is this because of what they see from where they are standing? Most likely. Either God has not yet subjected them to The Truth, or they rejected it. Some of them will say that you can quit committing certain sins, but not live faultlessly before God. Well again, they do not understand The Grace nor The Power of God!

Romans 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

“Fair speeches”-We sure can find a lot of those nowadays! One way to sniff out many lies is to look for drama and the ‘victim’ mentality. Drama doesn’t glorify God, it glorifies man through either their writing skills, presentation skills, by becoming a victim, or other silly things that distract people from truth.

Here’s a good question: aren’t those that claim that they can never escape a life of sin playing the victim? If they are the victim, then they can convince people that something is owed to them, without their doing anything for it – because “they” have already been done wrong - as payment. Let’s then ask this also… Who was really done wrong? Was it not our Lord and Creator, who Mankind sinned against willfully? He gave it all to us, but mankind was not thankful for it?

-Good thing for us that He knows how to take the wrong! He is even compassionate enough and so meek that He humbled Himself to be made into a man and allow His own creation to sacrifice The Son of Man in order to redeem those willing to come out from among their corrupt kind to have fellowship with Him! Praise The Lord!

: a composition in verse or prose intended to portray life or character or to tell a story usually involving conflicts and emotions through action and dialogue and typically designed for theatrical performance Ever hear someone tell a dramatic story, or read something that they wrote that fits this description?

Counterfeits - One way we can find to explain that there really is only one genuine truth in all matters is to compare this to the fact that there really is only one genuine $1 bill currently in print by the U.S. mint and that is acceptable legal tender in the U.S. How many counterfeits do you suppose have be made of it? Wouldn’t it be foolish for us to say only one? I think that we all know better than this, right?

What’s interesting is that one counterfeit bill will not fool the first person that comes in contact with it, but the next person may blindly accept it. Likewise, the first person who saw the flaws in the first counterfeit might be fooled by the next contrary counterfeit bill that comes along. Reality is that neither counterfeit was a true $1 bill. Paper money is so seldom used these days that chances are these are the only $1 bills that these people even came into contact with today!

What do all counterfeits have in common? They are all fakes that resemble real bills, but they are not. They are all capable of fooling those who are not prudent. What do all false ways have in common? They make the Word of God of none effect concerning its ability to transform our mind to purge our conscience from dead works, preserving our entire being blameless in His sight; in this present world. (Romans 12:2, Titus 3:5, Hebrews 9:14, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 2 Peter 3:14, Titus 2:12) They too, are all capable of fooling those who are not prudent.

In the end, counterfeit ways take the place of the real bill in our wallet of life. These are said to impart God’s righteousness, but The Lord can see through them. And he has the last say. Those that would cash them in on payday for their reward will be left with the words, “I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:22-23)

Hopefully we are all leaving this discussion with some ‘food for thought’. This is my prayer in Christ Jesus for all who reads. In closing, I would like to leave you all with these additional scriptures:

James 1:5-8 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Ecclesiastes 12:12-14 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Grace, mercy, and peace be to all who can hear. May God be with you all. Amen.
